3.2.4.6: Support Automated Merge and Vehicle Maneuvers
This process shall support approaching vehicles equipped with automated driving systems (ADS') by providing information collected from infrastructure-based sensors and information coming in from other approaching vehicles. This information may include status of other vehicles trying to maneuver through an area, make a lane change, or merge into traffic. The process shall receive traffic sensor data from sensors within the roadway. The process shall be able to receive control data from another process in Provide Automatic Vehicle Operation. Based upon these inputs the process shall develop a merge or maneuver strategy, and provide detailed parameters (e.g. exactly where, and at what speed the merge or maneuver should take place). The process shall send merge and maneuver strategy information and detailed parameters to the process that provides actual vehicle control. This process shall determine when a potential conflict exists between the intended merges and maneuvers of all the approaching vehicles and other sensor inputs. This process shall notify approaching vehicles of the potential conflict.
