US: SAE Signal Control Messages - WAVE WSMP

Description:

This solution is used within Canada and the U.S.. It combines standards associated with US: SAE Signal Control Messages with those for V-X: WAVE WSMP. The US: SAE Signal Control Messages standards include upper-layer standards required to implement signal control information flows. The V-X: WAVE WSMP standards include lower-layer standards that support connectionless, near constant, ultra-low latency vehicle-to-any communications within ~300m using the WAVE Short Messaging Protocol (WSMP) over IEEE WAVE in the 5.9GHz spectrum. The broadcast mode is interoperable with M5 FNTP.

Solution Issues Severity: 36

The severity issue score calculation only includes issues associated with standards that are included by default.

Solution Issues:

DefaultSeverityNameTypeDescription
TrueLowData not defined in standard formatITS Info GapThe definition of data concepts should conform to ISO 14817-1 to promote reuse among ITS.
TrueLowGuidance document under developmentStandardization GapThis recommended practice on how to use the related standards is still under development but is not seen as strictly necessary to begin deployment of equipment.
TrueLowNot a standard (minor)Standardization GapThe document is publicly available and widely used but it is not currently a formal standard.
TrueMediumNot a standardStandardization GapThe document may be publicly available but it is not currently available as a formal standard and details may change prior to adoption as a standard.
TrueMediumOverlap of standardsOverlapMultiple standards have been developed to address this information and it is unclear which standard should be used to address this specific information flow.
TrueMediumUncertainty about trust revocation mechanismSecurity GapThe mechanisms used to prevent bad actors from sending authorized messages is unproven.
TrueHighDraft not available (Critical)Standardization GapThe standards development organization has established a work item for the subject standard but a draft is not available for this critical feature to enable the interface. The draft may be missing due to the work item being new or simply a lack of activity on the work item.
TrueHighRegulatory IssueStandardization GapDeployment of this standard is subject to regulatory approval, which is not currently expected to be granted for deployments in the near-term.
